I am curious about the rationale of this statement. The justification of a party through the capacitiy to move or affect the people is common around the world, but not very common to use it as an excuse except the case in Taiwan. It involves with the issues of subjectivity, sympathetic participation, discourse, and mediation.
This reminds me some similar researches about Tzu-Chi movement. The whole imagined communities in Taiwan are built upon compassion, sentimental movement, and collective recognition, be it politics, religion, or news.
